I'm currently a freshman at Spelman and I advise you to go ahead and register to complete an online application on bannerweb. You don't need to have all your materials in order to use the system...you can go back and modify or add any information to any section that you want--until you hit that 'submit' button, no one will see your information. I submitted my application online and I preferred that because I was able to track whether or not they had reviewed my application. So my future Spelman sister, go ahead and sign up for an online app--that way you can see wut the essay question is and get started on applying! I wish you luck in the app process!

ummm excuse me i have a question...
so, i have my spelman email and i keep gettin mail from other spelman people (lookin for housing and junk), but i can't receive outside mail. like, i tried to email my spelman adress using my other internet email address and i'v had friends of mine do the same (from like aol and morehouse emails....), BUT i still cant receive those. i did, however, send myself an email from the spelman address, and i got it several hours later.
is this supposed to happen or am i just missing something??? :???:
Gurl I'm having the SAME problem! After I didnt get my facebook confirmation link in my email several HOURS after I registered, I tried sending myself mail from my yahoo account to see if it would go through, and I never got it. I asked a friend of mine that's gonna be a sophomore at Spelman this year about it, and she said a friend of hers is having the same problem so she called Spelman and they said they'd have the problem fixed by Monday....let's hope so
Hey yall! I'll be a freshman this fall too and I'm staying in LLC1, also in the honor's program. Btw does LLC1 also participate in all the things that the traditional freshmen dorms do, example dorm week and all that stuff?
I hope yall have fun at HU! I live in the DC area and let me tell you, DC's a fun city to be in...get used to the crackheads cuz there's a lot of them around here (just today some homeless dude that was limpin on a cane told me he was gon shoot me :???: ) but it's people like that that make life interesting! LoL...Howard's the bomb, I keep tellin ppl that if I didn't live here I'd go to Howard (but since it's too close, I'll be at Spelman in the fall!) Um..."Last Stop" and "Up Against the Wall" are basically the best stores for urban fashion...u can find those clothes in the malls in Maryland also, but they're mad expensive...yes the traffic's ridiculous...and people most definitely CANNOT drive around here! just be alert and you should be fine! basically bring an open mind to DC and yall will have fun at the real HU!

I know exactly where you're coming from...every one I know (including my dad) expected me to apply to all these "big name" schools like Cornell, Columbia, etc, but I knew from day one that my heart was with attending an HBCU, so three of the four schools i applied to were HBCUs (Spelman, Howard, Xavier of LA). I got into all four of my schools, and to tell you the truth I wasn't at all excited when I got into the PWI that i applied to...I didn't even bother applying to Cornell, cuz I knew that even if I went there, I wouldn't feel completely fulfilled...I would feel like I'd be lacking something. That's exactly why I chose to attend Spelman this fall. Ivy-Leagues are great...they have great reputations, great resources, etc, but the way I see it your undergraduate experience really shapes you for the rest of your professional life. I don't see the big deal about getting a bachelor's at some big-name school...why not go to a school of lesser hype (to the white society) but equally as good that will build up your confidence as a black female in today's society and then show them how well prepared you are for grad school/your years beyond college? In other words, I'm attending Spelman for undergrad and then will go to an Ivy for grad. I believe teh first four years of college should be a fun experience, both academically and socially, and attending an HBCU will be the best one for me. Dont' listen to what other say. I followed my heart.. just follow yours (that's all you can do cuz at the end of the day you have to live with your decision, not anybody else) ;-) Hope I helped!

I'm wondering the SAME thing...I got my tentative financial award letter yesterday but have not heard anything about scholarships, and based upon from the very little $$ they gave me so far, I'm gonna need for them to give me a scholarship :???:!!!
