Hinds Community College

Hinds Community College, the largest community college and the fourth largest institution of higher learning in the state of Mississippi, is a comprehensive educational institution serving approximately 19,500 students each year. In 1982, Hinds Community College merged in Utica Junior College, an HBCU founded in 1903, and created Hinds Community College - Utica Campus as a result. The Utica campus is the oldest of Hinds CC�s six locations. Utica Campus still retains its Historically Black College & University (HBCU) designation and traditions.

College History
The Utica campus of Hinds Community College, formerly "Utica Junior College', was founded in 1903 as Utica Normal and Industrial Institute. Utica Junior College, a historically black college, merged with Hinds Junior College in 1982 under Federal court order as part of a class action racial discrimination lawsuit. Although it is a part of the Hinds Community College system, but it still retains its Historically Black College & University (HBCU) designation and traditions.
